What The Loveland Foundation does
The Loveland Foundation pays for therapy for Black women and nonbinary people across the United States. Rachel Cargle started it in 2018 to continue her birthday fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls, which raised more than $250,000 to help Black women around the country get therapy.
Its main program, the Therapy Fund, opens applications every quarter and covers 4 to 12 therapy sessions per person through vouchers. Recipients can also join quarterly support groups and workshops and use wellness resources. So people can keep going after the covered sessions end, the foundation points them to partner directories such as Therapy for Black Girls, Open Path Collective and the National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network. Since 2021 it has also offered professional development for therapists, through partners including The Renfrew Center and The Calla Collective.
The foundation's 2024 annual report says it served 4,848 people that year. It offered 58,176 hours of therapy and paid therapists more than $2.3 million. The report also says it has funded more than $9 million in therapy since 2019. Charity Navigator gives it four out of four stars, with a score of 92%.
