What Corporación Vamos Mujer does

Corporación Vamos Mujer is a feminist nonprofit based in Medellín, Colombia, that works for the rights of women in the city and in three subregions of Antioquia: the Nordeste, Oriente and Suroeste. Its work is organized around three aims — women's economic empowerment, a life free from violence, and women's participation as political actors — alongside ongoing monitoring of women's human rights.

The group traces its roots to 1979, when its founders began working with women in Medellín's working-class neighborhoods and with the rural peasant movement, at a time when, by its own account, no NGO in the city focused specifically on Antioquia's women. It gained formal legal status under its current name in 1987. Today it runs training and organizing with girls, young women and adult women, supports a network of women producers called Las Lilas, and publishes an annual report on violations of women's rights in Medellín and Antioquia. Its vision also includes putting forward women's proposals for peace and nonviolent responses to Colombia's armed conflict.

Vamos Mujer has been recognized several times by Medellín's city council, including with the Orden al Mérito Don Juan del Corral in 2009. As a Colombian organization it is not rated by US charity evaluators, and gifts are not US tax-deductible.
