What CAMFED does
CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, helps girls from poor rural communities in Africa get to school, stay in school, and go on to lead. It works in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, partnering with thousands of government schools and the communities around them, and pays for things like secondary-school scholarships and primary-school support.
What sets CAMFED apart is what happens after graduation. Former students join the CAMFED Association, now 355,303 members strong, and many of them turn around and support the next generation: CAMFED counts 5.39 million students helped to attend school directly by association members. Young women also return to schools as trained Learner Guides, peer mentors who have supported about 4.67 million children. Altogether, CAMFED reports it had supported 9.3 million children to go to school between 1993 and 2025.
US donations go to CAMFED USA Foundation in San Francisco (EIN 54-2033897), which Charity Navigator rates four stars. CAMFED says more than 90% of its spending goes to programs.
